"Number One”
On July 1, 1946, the Past Commanders of the First District of the Department of California, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, associated themselves into a what is known as the Past Commanders Club. Any Past Commander of a Post, County Council, District or Department of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States is eligible to become a member of this organization if he/it’s she can show a paid-up dues card in the V.F.W., and the payment of the required membership fees. At present, membership dues in the Past Commander Club are $15.00. Dues expire the 31st of December each year. It is a non-profit club instituted for rendering service, social, civic and educational to the membership of the First District V.F.W. , and does not contemplate the distribution of gains, profits, and dividends to the members thereof. Any Past Commander holding membership in "Number One” is entitled to all privileges except a non-resident member (Living outside of the District) shall not be eligible to hold office in the Club. The club holds regular business meetings on the "Third Monday” of the first month of each quarter. Each year at the April quarterly meeting the election of the President, Secretary, Treasurer and Chaplain take place. Dinner precedes each of the meetings. In July of each year, the Past Commander Club usually holds a picnic at which time the selected Post Commander of the Year by the PCC members receives a plaque. If you were a Past Commander of a Post, County Council, District or Department of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States you are requested to join this prestigious club and assist with carrying on the rendering service, social, civic and educational to the membership of the First District V.F.W.
